Product Description
Saumarez Park is the largest public park in Guernsey and one of the island’s main social venues. There is plenty to see and do for all ages, making it a popular destination for families, especially since it is free to visit! The park hosts numerous events throughout the year, including the Battle of Flowers, the Guernsey Classic Vehicle Club show, and the Guernsey Friends of the Anthony Nolan Trust Easter Egg Hunt! The park is more than just a great venue, it and the adjacent Saumarez Nature Trail provide a valuable habitat for a wide range of wildlife too! The trail links the park with the Cobo Bay nearby, making it a great place for a walk with the family and a picnic. Other attractions include a Japanese Fishing Hut, pond, and Japanese walk, formal gardens including a rose garden, and collections of plants from the far east such as bamboo and camellia. There is also a Walled Kitchen Garden, but this is currently being restored so there is limited access when the volunteers are working. The National Trust of Guernsey Folk and Costume Museum can also be found in the park and is free to visit for members, with a modest fee for non members. And no park would be complete without a play area, and this one has a large adventure playground that caters for all ages, from toddler to teens. Watch this space though, as exciting new plans have been drawn up to replace the current playground with a new enlarged one that offers children a greater opportunity to relax and play. The park has plenty of large grassy lawns to enjoy, and there is even a duck pond. Perfect!
